Hello from The Happy Viking - in Australia

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have recently started doing leatherwork and am LOVING it. My work is influenced a great deal by Viking and Celtic designs - I am in a Viking re-enactment group in Queensland. I would love to meet other leatherworkers and learn more. I have started my own little business (The Happy Viking - of course). For those of you who want to look at my website - it is thehappyviking,webs.com

As I said, I have only just started so if anyone has any constructive criticism that they would like to give after looking at my photos, I am happy to receive it.

Looking forward to being part of this community.

Welcome aboard. I do Viking reenactment, also, so we should have plenty to talk about. I haven't checked your website, yet, but will later today. Daggrim Hjalmer

Hello and thank you for your welcomes. Sorry, I made a typo on my website address. It's thehappyviking.webs.com (dot webs dot com - I accidentally put a comma in there). Hope you can find it now.

I haven't had much of a chance to look around this site yet but will do so now.

Take care and hope to chat to you again soon.

Hi,

I also enjoy tooling Celtic art. I've been practicing since 2006, and have recently started a business in leather craft called Epona Leather Works, but have not been bold enough to quit my day job like you have done. The primary product has been sporrans. I just sent you a note in your web site about a copy of a "free" Tandy Celtic cross tooling pattern that I have saved on my PC. I'd be happy to send a copy to you. I don't see how to attach it here. Ahh, here it is - how to attach, I mean. I hope you can use this pattern. I'm located in Indiana, USA.

Thank you very much Jim. That pattern is beautiful! Do you have a website of your stuff? I would especially like to look at other Celtic works. I don't like to copy other people's things but always love the inspiration it gives me. I have almost finished another bag - only the clasp is holding me up. I'm really pleased with how it's turned out and will post a picture of it when it's finished. Hope to chat to you again.

Happy Viking,

You're welcome. I like the work you have on your site and thought thatthat pattern would be a nice addition to your product offering. I donot, however, have a site of my own. I was hooked on leather toolingin 2006 when wanting to make a sporran of my own. In March, I starteda small business (very small) and have been doing leather work on apart time basis. My work was liked by the right folks, and at thistime we are in the middle of an order for 50 day sporrans for a localpipe band (my wife, Brenda, got involved so we could make betterprogress). I'm happy that they are not in a rush to get them all atonce.

Here are a few more URLs. You may have these, or maybe not.

http://www.ramsskullpress.com/

http://www.nmia.com/~rqpltd/ This one is Raymond's Quiet Press, a medieval hardware smithy. Pretty interesting.

This is a sampling of some of the sites I have bookmarked in my favorites. I have nothing to gain by promoting any of these businesses. Hope one or more of them will be of use to you. Take care.

Here is a sample of more recent work I did which is attached. This is a modification of a hunting pouch pattern by Rene Berends that I made into a purse for a friend's wife.
