jerryrwm Report post Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) I just came across a couple of pictures of a project that I did a couple years ago. It is a wooden chest that is covered with rawhide. The rawhide is joined at the seams with a Spanish edge braid, while the darker insets are 5 strand appliques. It is all done in elk rawhide. There are over 5000 holes puched in the hide so that the lace could be applied in the various patterns. I hand cut all the laces, dyed the applique laces and then put the whole thing together. The second picture shows what the box looked like after they had attached the hardware and antiqued the whole thing. It was antiqued using some sort of wood stain that was sprayed on. The chest was made to be used as a prop in the movie "Alamo" that was filmed in Central Texas a number of years ago. It didn't make it into the movie, but I did catch a glimpse of it on the DVD. It was behind Dennis Quaid in one scene that was an out-take. After the movie was filmed I don't know what became of the chest. Hope someone made good use of it. rawhide1 Report post Posted September 27, 2009 Very nice I think it turned out great. It would be pretty nice to have that sitting in the front room. Also pretty neat story to go with it. Thanks for sharing such a neat piece. Mike
