Hello from a noob Want-a-be

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, I guess its about time that I make my first post. I've been lurking for a few weeks now.

I made my first trip to the nearest Tandy store a couple weeks ago (3 hour drive - one way :)), and just today received my first Mail Order from them. I'm starting to get a few tools together so now I'm stocked up on various leather and hardware etc..

In the mean time I've been making a few things such as Key Holders w/ 4-5 " straps for some family members. Being a lefty I attempted to make my first CCW holster for s Sig 220. Sometimes when I look at it, its not too ugly and then there are times that its real ugly. I don't know what you call them but I also made a wrap around for the butt stock of my Marlin 1894c, I also made a repair to an old holster that I bought this past summer for 10 bucks. It looks pretty good now.

Anyway, I've got the bug and plan on making more lefty ccw holsters, etc for myself. The first one did turn out better than I expected. Although it doesn't look that great it will serve its purpose rather well, in fact it really holds the pistol nice, close and snug. For that alone I'm pleased overall.

As for a little history, I have no experience, artistic skills at all nor can I draw. My interests are to only make things for myself and the immediate family. I'm really in to shooting and reloading so I plan on accessorising and dressing things up bit around here.

The only down side of things is starting up a new hobby. At least leather working and the shooting arena complement one another.

I think my next project is going to be an ammo belt. I would actually like to make a ccw hoster for a Glock 26 but its in layaway now. If I only had  g-26 Blue Gun I would start on it tonight :)

I'll be hanging around and drooling over your beautiful work. I'm really amazed at the talent being displayed around here. I hope the smallest bit rubs off in my direction.

:welcome: Glad to have you, Arley. You are starting out the same way my dad did. He was also very much into shooting, reloading, and gunsmithing, and took up leatherwork in support of those passtimes. And at some point, it rubbed off on me and my siblings.

We look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Kate
