I managed to get out of storage an old hatchet, It's completely metal, blade is only about 2 inches cutting length, handle is about 10-12 inch, the bottom of the handle swells out like a coin but the rest is like 3:1 rectangular.

I can't get a picture on any time soon, sorry.

IMG 1024x7681.jpgThere was a how to in the book "Coloring With Eco-Flo" page 37 for making a leather Mache handle, might look nice on a larger scale as in your hatchet.

I think I might try that one, I should have plenty of old scraps right now, Question though

Would it matter about the saddle soap content left on the back of stuff? Should I rinse and drain it through some washing liquid first?

don't know how the saddle soap would affect it. if the scrap you use is in bigger pieces it might be better to clean it off first. post a picture when your done regardless of how you cover it.

Wellit might be a while yet anyhow, I am just trying to plan things out, I have so much to do these days it will be january before I get to clean up the rust...But I will share indeed.
