What am I doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

I tried to rework a belt for my father in law for x-mas. I cut it out, dyed & buffed it out to a nice shine but I noticed about half way through putting some decorative stitching on it that the white thread was picking up the dye. Did I not let it set long enough after dying? (it sat for about 24 hrs.) I used Fiebing black dye

BUFF.....BUFF..... BUFF..... LET IT DRY LONGER, THEN APPLY (OR I DO APPLY SUPER SHEEN)

DO YOU USE FIEBINGS OIL DYE ?

Be sure to wax your thread very well. Also put a stitching groove in the leather, this minimizes the contact of the cord with the dye.

After you oiled and dyed, did you put a finish coat on before you sewed? Black dye , especially, has lots of excess pigments.

Acrylic Resolene is always good to finish black dye.

Good luck Happy tooling

I'm using the oil based dye and no I forgot to put some leather sheen on it. I have a new piece cut out and I'll try to make it again.

Thanks for the help.
