CharlieR Report post Posted January 3, 2010 Just picked up this old Porter at a sale. I think it is a fine cnadidate for cleaning, restoration, but I have very little knowledge of date of manufacture, etc. My only Porter catalog does not have any saddle pics with square skirts. It is dirty, but underneath is a nice saddle with plenty of color. It is Carlos border stamped and all pieces are original. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Charlie I'm still trying to figure out this photo thing. Maybe this pic is better. Charlie

Blake Report post Posted January 9, 2010 I guess you guys are as at much of a loss as I am.................... Hi Charlie Take off the rear jockeys and see if there is a card tacked to the top of the near side bar behind the cantle. Its possible that it will still be there if it has never been rebuilt before. It was fairly common to find a Porters business card with the buyers/customers name and the date if it was a custom order. I don't know if their in stock saddles had any kind of information attached. It looks to be a decent prospect for a rehab program. Let us know what you find if anything at all. Kind Regards Blake

Saddlebag Report post Posted January 10, 2010 I know N Porter made a square skirted saddle in 1931. Back in those days the cowboys were small, often only about 5'6 and with their skinny butts could ride a 13" seat.
