TConrad Report post Posted January 7, 2010 I HAVE JUST RECENTLY FINISHED MY FIRST ROPER WALLET. COVER 3-4OZ , INTERIOR HAIR CELL PIG 1.5-2 OZ. MACHINE SEW LINING ( NEW MACHINE STILL GETTING THE HANG OF THE OLD SINGER. hAND SEW THE COVER TO THE LINING. I DIDN'T WANT TO CHANCE MESSING UP THE HOLE PROJECT DO TO INEXPERIENCE ON THE MACHINE. QUESTION IS HOW TO MAKE THE EDGES OF THE LINING LOOK BETTER ( SOLID ) ( PRO ) WITH THE MULTIPLE LAYERS. I HAVE SEEN THE THREAD ABOUT COVER THE EDGES BUT I LIKE THE CLEAN SIMPLE LOOK. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO, OR AM I STUCK TO COVERING THE EDGE. P.S. I KNOW I COULD LACE THE EDGE AND IT WOULD COVER UP THE SIDE, BUT LIKE I SAID CLEAN IS GOOD. King's X Report post Posted January 7, 2010 You can try a #1 Barry King edger to edge your interior ends and then careful edge paint. You might also want to use a creaser to place a small crease parrallel to the cut. Finally, you can carefully skive the edger before you sew them and glue them down to the interior side or sew them down. I have done the last one myself, but the skiving is tricky. I have heard from Big Papa about the first to do. He does a lot of wallets. Maybe he can chime in. Happy New Year!
TwinOaks Report post Posted January 8, 2010 What I've done with pocket edges is to skive like King's X mentioned and fold it over on itself. You need to use a straight edge and pre-crease the edge, and you might consider masking the leather away from the width you'll be folding so you don't get glue anywhere you don't want it. Then fold and press until the glue sets. Presto, very clean edge. If you're not comfortable skiving very thin leather like the 1.5-2 oz pig, you can also sand it with a block.
