Shorts Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Here's the first holster after 2 years away from the skill. Lots of little errors and stupid mistakes I intend to get corrected for the next several holsters I have in line. For an explanation of the bleed off there around the screw, refer to the Black dye thread in Dyes and Finishes. Without thinking, I put the screw on the holster before dying. Shorts Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Hi.Very nice work ! I've seen holsters with screws and I wonder how it works. Would you explain ? Thanks !!! Thanks Well, the screw on this one holds the rear belt strap. I did that so the strap can be changed out when the snap wears out. Next time though I probably will just go with a regular strap like the front. Manf put tension screws on the holster, which I think that's what you are thinking about. Basically as the holster wears in and gets older, you can turn the screw and increase the tension around the gn again so it can stay snug.
Shorts Report post Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) "...but how does it look when you wear it??" <-- What I ask myself looking at holsters online. This one wears comfortable, no stabbing in the rib cage and double score is no banging on my elbow either. Edited April 5, 2008 by Shorts
LuisPaulo Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Hi Shorts. Yes, that's exactly I'm thinking.... Tension screws. In this case, there screws and some what ? A piece of metal inside the holster ? Thanks.
TwinOaks Report post Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) Luis, The tension screw usually is attached to a T-nut inserted from the rear of the holster. Between the two layers of leather (front and rear of holster) it's not uncommon to have a compressable spacer. Something akin to sorbethane- firmer than neoprene, softer than typical nylon spacers. Basically, the tension is adjusted by tightening the screw and squishing-for lack of a better description- the spacer. Shorts, Very nice work. Nice and clean, and the stitches looks great. mliebs8 Report post Posted April 5, 2008 Looks good, I like the way it seems to be nice and tight to the body. Can you post some pics of the back of the holster. When I first looked at the pictures I said to myself what and the H*** is that brass ring he has attatched to it. I know, I'm an idiot.

You can see on the front one where I drilled through and forgt about the backpiece and drill through that This holster is a decent base pattern. I think I'm going to tweak this and that to get a good solid piece from it. But so far, promising. Thanks TwinOaks. Stitching takes forever for me. I only have the use of my right hand so its truly a tedious process. I good padded sewing glove is a must! Edited April 6, 2008 by Shorts
