Members ashlyngr Posted January 31, 2010 Members Report Posted January 31, 2010 I'm getting ready to make my first Knife Sheath. I'm making a sandwich style and not a folded style. My front, welt, and back layers of leather will be approximately 3/4" thick. Has anyone used a dremel drill press or table top drill press with good results? I haven't attempted to pierce leather that thick with a standard or sewing awl. Thanks, ashlyngr Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted January 31, 2010 Contributing Member Report Posted January 31, 2010 There has been some discussion of placing an awl needle in a drill press without it running- sounds like it'd make a decent arbor press. The dremel press?? Dunno. You will likely find it easier to penetrate the leather, even at that thickness, if you moisten it first. Also, if you set everything up with rubber cement and get your edges right first....you can make a template for the holes and do one layer at a time. Quote

Takes a little longer but is a great patience builder!! Jeff Quote
