entiendo Report post Posted February 14, 2010 I have no idea how but I had a string break on a 9' long set of reins I just finished. I was even applying the finish! Gosh what a bummer! It broke right in the middle. Any ideas how to fix it? My best idea so far is to completely take out that one string and weave another through and secure it with a pineapple button at the front of the reins. I can't completely take out that string because of the decorative buttons. Grrr. I've never had this happen before. In my experience once it's braided it's safe, even if there is a weak spot. roo4u Report post Posted February 15, 2010 wow that sucks...i would try to use a splice...take a length of lace cut it so that the ends will be under when you get it in. i use a twoprong lacing needle to get it in make sure you work it in for a few o/u so its solid. pull your broken one back out leaving a little overlap but make sure that the overlap is under. i thin the top of the broken and the bottom of the splice to reduce bulk...elmers glue or any other casein(sp?) type glue will work well it penetrates the fibers and remains flexible when dry. good luck. entiendo Report post Posted February 15, 2010 Yeah it does really suck!! I ended up pulling the string out and securing the new string with buttons. There really are no simple solutions. Thanks though roo.
