I am no expert on this; it only happened to me once; but when it did I used a match flame to burn out the bit of leather that was inside the needle. Seeing as how you have done this already, I think that there may still be a little bit of leather left inside that you didn't get out. You might try doing it again and then run something thin, like a wire into the needle to dis-lodge whatever ash is still there. I tried using something with a barb on it, but the only thing that comes to mind is a porcupine quill. I keep several on hand just for something like that. Hope this helps.

I use a small propane torch. Put the flame in the threaded area till it turns red. Stop let it cool and tap it on your stone or something. hard. then take a tooth pick and gently twist it in and slowly twist it out. Tap again. Repeat the tooth pick on the other end. I have also tried alittle olive oil on the end of the lace. Helps from braking off. Hope it works for you. Dennis

Have you tried using a sewing needle to clean out the threads? I've used this method with some success. Stuff the sewing needle in as far as you can, and carefully follow the threads out with the point of the needle. Try it a few times to see if it helps. Sometimes it grabs the little piece of lace left inside the perma lock.

I have had some success too with a sewing needle but I stab the sewing needle into a piece of wood, then insert the eye end into the permalok, and spin the permalok in my fingers, take it off and tap it on the wood, then keep going until nothing else comes out.

I have had a lot of practice with this on my last project where the lace was just split too thin and wouldn't hold properly, wouldn't grip and would just break over and over again.

Good luck with it
