aermotor Report post Posted March 10, 2010 I received my "The Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal" today, and I noticed that Luberto Manufacturing, Inc. is advertising their Classic Cub Manual Stitcher in the March/April 2010 issue. Its been about eight months or so since I've seen it advertised. Has anyone tried this machine or have news about it? Thanks. Aermotor
Art Report post Posted March 10, 2010 I got the demo at Sheridan and then had some time to sit and play with it. The quality and design are up to usual Luberto "built like a tank" standard. Finish is good, no shortcuts were evident. I have only one problem with it. The motive power is a crank on the side of the machine (where a traditional balance wheel would be). I just have a problem with cranking that thing and feeding the work. That's not saying I wouldn't get used to it after a while, it cranks away from you unlike most balance wheels, which is a good thing. I have no problems working my No.9 with the wheel on the front, but the crank on the side might take some time to appreciate? It is a little more fluid than the Boss, and I would have a hard time deciding between the Cub and a Cast Iron (original) Boss. With the prices the way they are today, You should seriously consider a powered short arm 441 clone, unless portability is a factor. aermotor Report post Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) Thanks for your input, Art. The Classic Cub caught my eye, because it is American made. I spoke on the telephone with Mr. Luberto, and he is several weeks out from production. Also, he said that he has made a few improvements from the original prototype. And he thinks it will have a similar stitch to the Classic Stitcher. I hope it will be very successful and will give China some competition. Thanks again.
