Dry Sponge Overlay Dyeing Test

Recommended Posts

I was playing and got this. Dyed it british tan first then put some black dye on a sponge and let it mostly dry, then rubbed that in for the overlay. I like two-toned effects like this and am still learning. What do you think?

I like that mottled effect, too, but your best work is those little cheeks in the next photo :)

LOL thanks, his name is Corwin and he's 8 months old now.

I'll be trying this effect again with some different colors, later. If I learn about anything similar I'll try that too at the same time

Ok, I did some tests. All we have to test with right now are different browns and black (that red color is a red brown). So if some of them look remarkably the same... that's because they are. :) I numbered them in the photos. I do like #2 and #3 which are both the british tan with darker brown on top instead of black. I think I hate #6 which... ... See MoreSee More was medium brown with black overlay. #4 is the same as the #1 you guys saw earlier but with a lot less black. #5 is cordovan on medium brown

Also for some reason on another forum it seems like a lot of people did not like my first test colors. I don't know if they would like them if they saw them on an actual project.
