Why are pricking irons so expensive? Also wonder why there aren't more makers.

I've been told it's because of the precision required in making them.

I have tried some cheaper ones but the teeth are quite often at slightly different angles and the spacing is irregular.

So I went back to expensive ones.

Try making one. I think they are pretty much hand made and must have some kind of heat treatment, because I bought some that were only about $35, and they each had broken teeth within a month and I promise I'm not hard on them. If you sew enough, it's actually a pretty cheap investment. (Then why don't I have more?)

I always use dixon pricking iron most of mine are original from when I started 30 years ago
