The Farmers Daughter Report post Posted June 5, 2010 Does anyone know what is the difference between Rocking R and R & R saddlery? Is R & R the condensed version or are they 2 completely different makers? Thanks for any help!
horsewreck Report post Posted June 6, 2010 As far as I know the most well known company going by the name Rocking R Saddlery is building saddles in Alabama. However the only reference to R&R saddles I know of is a line of youth saddles being imported from China..... I think you could be dealing with two very different companys here, as Rocking R I hear sells a decent American made product. That being said R&R might be one of those companys selling very marginal quality saddles at best..... Be careful as we are seeing a new generation of junk imports that are sold as western saddles that won't fit horse or rider, and are made with vinyl seats, very odd leather, and other dubious materials. I hope this has been of some help.

Here is the website: http://www.rockingrsaddlery.com/ The are good saddles for the money. Well made and comfortable. I know a lot of gaited horse people like them. I went to the rocking R web site but as far as I can see their logo is a rocking R. I have had their saddles in my shop and as I said above they make a decent saddle. My concern was and still is, a cheap import that as far as I have heard is marketing stuff under the name R R and or R R R. If a saddle says it is made in Alabama or somewhere else in the states then it is an American saddle, But some of the junk coming in might have a name stamped on it but not a point of origin. I would in no way seek to impune a established U S saddle co. my only intent was to let folks know to be careful, as a fulltime shop owner for many years I have seen to many honest people over charged for a low quality product. Thanks again... Jeff

horsewreck Report post Posted June 8, 2010 I went to the website too and the logo is a R on a rocker shaped like the bottom of a rocking chair. This logo is 2 R's back to back, so I am still confused. Is there any other markings on the saddle? Does the logo have a State, and or City named? I will keep researching R's back to back, but I have not seen that as a logo before, as best I can recall. Is this a saddle you bought, or are looking at to buy? It might be from some very small maker. I am pretty sure it has no connection to Rocking R Saddlery of Alabama....... Jeff

R&Rsaddle.htm This is the description from the seller: 15 inch R & R Endurance saddle. It has a fiberglass tree. New back rigging on one side. Quick change buckles. The fleece underside is beautiful. The saddle is like brand new, and looks to have not been ridden. Has been professionally cleaned and oiled and is ready to ride. I believe it has semi QH bars. I tried it on my Arabian and it was just a tad too narrow in the withers. This is a nice saddle and not one of the new ones made out of inferior materials. Actually I don’t think there is a scratch on the saddle anywhere! The saddle weights 26. 3 lbs with the cinch attached, and the stirrups on it. Go take a look at the "Prestige Trekker RR Saddle" and let me know if this is what you have. www.choicetack.com/catalog/page/4756611 R&Rsaddle.htm
horsewreck Report post Posted June 9, 2010 If you have trouble getting into that site google, Prestige Trekker RR Saddle, and let me Know if that's what you have. I could not get a look at what you sent me as it wouldn't open for some reason..... Jeff
Curbstrap2 Report post Posted June 9, 2010 I have been searching online as the original information I gave you was not correct. Sorry for the confusion. I did not have any success finding out much information about a RR brand of saddlery with back to back R's. I did find this heartwarming story with reference to an old RR saddle. Maybe its nothing, but still a nice read. How old is your saddle? http://www.christianethicstoday.com/Issue/045/The%20Parable%20of%20the%20Lost%20Saddle%20By%20Hal%20Haralson_045_16.htm

Instead, here is the link from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/...E:X:AAQ:US:1123
horsewreck Report post Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Jeff. That is not the same saddle. Sorry I couldn't get the photo to post correctly. Instead, here is the link from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/...E:X:AAQ:US:1123 Okay, I got the ebay listing to print that helps me. The tree in the saddle looks like it might be made by Steele saddle co but they did not build the saddle as they don't line the skirts with wool under the tree. The stirrups have been changed as the text states. Looks like a decent saddle for the money. With me now having a pic. and knowing it's an endurance saddle I might be able to get to the bottom of this thing yet. It looks like the saddle rigging is designed to be set up in a V shape which is not uncommon for this type of saddle, if you are not familiar with this rigging I can try to send you a picture of how the thing is done between the front and back dees, it does make the saddle very stable on the horse .....Jeff

I still haven't found out anything about the maker, but the story gave me an idea to write to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to see if they had any leads. Thanks guys. NSC Report post Posted August 19, 2011 Great to hear it turned out to be better than you expected. I still haven't given up on finding the actual maker of your find. Let me know if you find any other clues on the saddle...... Jeff The western saddles with the R`s that are back to back, are 'Double R' saddles. Originally The Red Ranger saddles, that were then bought out somewhere in the late 70`s and then became Double R. Either way, a different company then The Rocking R saddles.
