Members threepets Posted June 6, 2010 Members Report Posted June 6, 2010 I rebuild helmets (helmet harness and such).I have been having a problem the last year or so with the double cap rivets . They have been rusting after a short period of time. I have bought from Weaver and a few other places with no luck. Weaver suggested their stainless steel rivet .I ordered some which was supposed to be shiny or nickel which I need for appearance but the stainless steel was gun metal in colour .Could somebody point me in the right direction for good quality rivets. Members threepets Posted June 10, 2010 Author Members Report Posted June 10, 2010 Ohio Travel Bag sells Jiffy Rivets in solid brass, someone else on here may sell them and be easier to buy from. Kevin I have purchased from Ohio Travel Bag.I made a mistake of buying quantity of both buckles and snaps thinking I would be buying quality. Both products I bought were made of light inferior metals that bend and rust.(buckles that bend with finger presure) I have a thousand pieces of these products that I cannot use and have had to replace where they have been applied. Brass turns green when used in an application where human sweat is envolved) so I don't know where to turn. I know there is a quality product out there ,I just haven't found it yet. Thank You for taking the time to reply, trying to help. Robin Quote
dirtclod Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I get chrome or nickle over brass double cap rivets from http://springfieldleather.com/store/ . They don't rust. Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.
Members Kevin Posted June 10, 2010 Members Report Posted June 10, 2010 Sounds like you're working on old Calientes, if so , what you have is about all there is, hardware wise. There is a company called Jack's, I think and they carry some racing stuff, I will try to remember to check their catalog tomorrow. I assume you're lookiing for the slide buckle with the snap socket on it. Kevin Quote
