institches Report post Posted July 13, 2010 Hello all. I just made my first holster for a small automatic. It turned out real well and I'm happy with my stitching and edge finishing. I was impatient with my dye job. I put two coats on (Feibing's USMC blk), dried it with a hair dryer, then finished it with Tan Kote. Like I said, I was impatient. I have since learned to wait. I am now faced with a nice holster that needs to be refinished. I was going to deglaze the Tan Kote with rubbing alcohol, let it dry, then dye the piece with another 3-4 coats of USMC blk. My question is, is my refinishing technique sound or does anyone have a better way? Thanks for any help.
Luke Hatley Report post Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Hello.... every body has there own way of doing things, here is mine. I always use Fiebings oil dye.(I was told that Tan-Coat will work the Best for Natural Leather) Then finish with Super Sheen... add a little Aussie , for a mellow shine. institches Report post Posted July 13, 2010 thank you for the quick reply. Rubbing alcohol should remove the tan kote right? I figured it must since it will take dye off your hands. For the true new leather guy, what is "Aussie?"
