Expired Dye?

I have an authorized seller of Tandy products in my area. They carry an extensive assortment of everything you could want. They started offering Fiebings dye at around two dollars less per bottle than the Tandy Outlet. I bought the colors, light brown, chocolate, mohogany, tan, dark brown and USMC Black. The black dye is the only one I do not have a problem with. The others with the exception of the tan are pretty much the same shade of dark brown. The tan is a beautiful brown maroon color. What I am trying to say is that the shades do not look anything like the swatches at the store or on the internet. I have tried all of the dyes on the sample pieces from the same veg hide. All of the bottles were foil sealed. They are packaged just like the stuff from the Tandy Outlet. What do you think the malfunction is? Could ot be knock off dye? Spoiled? Old? Your thoughts?
