First try at holster making, please don't laugh too hard

Here's my first attempt at a holster, I know it's bad but I'm open to any comments and suggestions. The stictching is worse than horrible but I'm sure it'll get better (actually I think it can only get better). Let me know what you think.

Nice work, and welcome!

I'm guessing that it's an IWB, 'cause of the loop placement, and b/c it looks like a Kimber Ultra Carry. It looks a whole lot better than mine did! One thing I added but don't see on yours is a sweat shield. It adds to the comfort factor quite a bit. Although, with a dehorned pistol it probably isn't as much of an issue ( I carry a '91A1 gov't). You might also consider on your next one ( 'cause I know you won't stop at one) adding an extra strip around the mouth- helps keep the holster open for one handed reholstering, and helps keep the general shape. If you find the holster starting to loose shape, i.e. collapsing, you might could just add the strip in.

Looks real good to me, the only change I would make is the color of the thread I think a black or darker brown would look better, but what the heck do I know, still working on my own winning combo of looks and function, keep making leather stuff and of course post them photos so's we can borrow your ideas LOL. Don't sell yourself short. I think it's a good looking holster. Your stitching will improve with practice. So get busy and make some more holsters

That actually looks pretty good for a first one. The first holster i made was an eyesore, although i still use it as kind of a mattress holster.

That's a great holster for a first try, nothing to be ashamed of!!!! My first three went in the garbage, even I couldn't stand them!!!!!!!!!

Other than the thread color I think it looks perfectly fine. For a first time, you have all the basics down. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Ah, now I see the shield!! Excellent fit that it isn't visible in the first pic. Now, about the computer classes...to have the pic show up like this, the only thing you need to copy and paste is the part that looks like this---> blah blah blah yackety smack , and leave out all the parts with <center>, etc.

here's my first, chrome tanned leather and all . I made it nap out to better grab me and my clothing. On day I'll get around to remaking it in veg tan, same patter...but neater.

With a full size pistol, one thing I've learned is to make the holster a little 'fat' to allow muzzle swing on the draw. With a shorty, it's no issue at all.

Notice how I "accidentally" cut my self off in the photo to hide my gut. Something to learn and remember, grasshopper.

I have seen a couple different people comment on his thread color. If my eyes don't decieve me it is a natural or sinew color, am i right ? I guess my point is that i have been using alot of natural color, artificial sinew lately and like the color contrast, at least with mahogany dye. I guess you guys don't like it as well. By the way does anyine know what artificial sinew is made of?

Thanks for all of the kind comments and suggestions, I really appreciate. Yes it is the natural color but when I did the went molding the dye put like a light orange tint to it. I think I am going to go with the black thread after I get the hang of it, I think the darker color would hide some of my sewing problems. I'm in the middle of doing another one right now and I'm going to went mold it and then dye it tomorrow and see how that works. I can see already this is going to be addicting.
