He asked me if I could make him an hand sewn "cow's leg" to cover the flint lock &keep it dry. Does anybody have a pattern, or a couple of decent pix? George ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* George, Don't know if this helps at all, but I did this for a customer to cover a Sharps replica a couple of years ago. I realize that it's not the period of which you speak, but it may give you an idea or two. This is made of a combination of deer and elk hides. Now I know why they call it a cow's leg. because i had thought the customer described a small piece that covered just the flint and pan. He would need a Lock Cover(cows knee) when hunting with his Flintlock in bad weather. hope you can make it by the photo... Leatherman42z Report post Posted September 26, 2010 Here's my first attempt at a Cows knee. I made it from pliable leather so you could stash it in your possibles bag. The last pic has it wrapped on my Henry rifle to give me a sense of scale, seems like it will fit. Thanx again for all the help and friendly advice .
