8thsinner Report post Posted September 27, 2010 Does anyone know a good a reliable method of measuring the thickness of the lace you split? I am not at home right now but, would paper sheets one on top of the other cover it? or would that be too inaccurate? How about wrapping three or four times around something and measuring this? Any one come up with anything in the past?
KnotHead Report post Posted September 27, 2010 Maybe this will help. I don't know if it will or not. But here it is anyway. Brian...
entiendo Report post Posted September 27, 2010 I just find a thickness I like and be sure no one touches my splitter. LOL I know my hides are somewhere between .8 and 1 mm so I just shave off a little from the thicker hides. .8 is a good thickness for me. A friend of mine does have a little tool that measures though I really didn't like it though. It seems when you get that thin feel works better. Aggiebraider Report post Posted September 28, 2010 I would suggest getting a caliper. You have to watch and keep from compressing the strands as you draw down the jaws of the caliper, but if you get it set to a thickness you want you can just keep trying to slide in the strand. Once it fits, its the right thickness. This is how I do it at least. You can get a cheap digital caliper from Harbor Freight...I think mine was around $10 Hope this helps, CW
