Please feel free to critique my latest Knife sheath. This is not my first knife sheath, but is my first attempt at an in-layed knife sheath (this one is stingray).

I have attached four pics.

Please let me know what you think and what I could do better.

Thank you

Vikefan

I like the style, shape and the way the inlay looks.

Your stitching is a little out of line.

Thanks Aaron;

Do you have any pointers to help me correct this, as to make my projects look better?

Try using a stiching groover. They help keep your stitches straight and also recess them for a tighter stitch.

I'd also finish stitching the back of the sheath. It looks like you have the holes, but no thread. That will add the finishing touch and also keep the leather from stretching out of shape.

Other than that, it's a very cool sheath. I really like the way it comes up high to on lt expose a small portion of the handle!

Very cool!

I agree. Get the stitching laid in a groove and you'll be in great shape. My only other comment is the choice of leather... I think with the black knife handle and black inlay, the brown leather looks a bit out of place. But whatever you prefer and in any case, I think you did a great job on the inlay.

i think they were going for a contrast of colors. it you did it all black you would loose the inlay i think. but that's my 2cents

Yes I agree; I have a Mahagony/Brown mix I like a lot and thought of using it on this. I have since tried to redden it up some - I put two coats of Red dye over the brown I had. I like the color better now.

Thank you.

Vikefan: As said, a stitching groover and an overstitch would help your stitching appearance, but for your first go, You done good! Mike

I am new to leather work, but to me it looks INCREDIBLE. I hope to produce a project just as GREAT one day.
