Newbie Seeking Advice

Hi everyone. I'm new to the site and to leather working. Got myself a starter kit from Tandy and I've been slowly working through the different projects within the kit. I decided to start with the easiest, and progress to the more difficult. I have finished the key fob and the belt, both could be better but have turned out ok. Last night I started the mobile phone holder that goes along with the belt, rather than glue the leather directly to the board with the cement provided, I decided to cover the back of the leather with some of the brown tape used for packaging, I then cemented this onto a suitable piece of board. When I finished the stamping I removed the leather from the tape to find that just about all the adhesive from the tape had been transfered onto the leather. What a mess, can any of you guys suggest how I might be able to remove this sticky mess without damaging the leather.

I have never got a mess from using packing tape. For next project perhaps try another brand.

For current project I'd go with some nice fabric or thin leather like goat or pig glued to the inside.

Looks alot neater and saves some time.

Thanks Tom, an excellent idea, I do have some fabric that would do the job. The tape I used I must admit was from a cheap cut price multi pack, a lesson learnt. Thanks again Tom.
