RWP Report post Posted October 17, 2010 hi all! first i wanna say GREAT work from all of you! very inspring! im looking to make my first sporran and im really not sure where to begin. i've made alot of belt pouches for LARPing and i was wondering if you guys could maybe point me in the right direction as to where to start? its going to be a showpiece ( i hope) but more experimentation than anything any help would be appreciated guys! druid Report post Posted October 19, 2010 Well I guess that would depend on what 'style' you are looking to make... There are 2 to my knowledge; 1. Rob Roy style 2. "modern" style. The Rob Roy is pretty much like a "sack" where the "modern" style is reminiscent to a muzzle loader's 'possibles' bag. The Rob Roy has the flap that you can carve, looks like this one I made: Or MUCH better versions found here: http://www.wyvernleatherworks.com/ and the "modern" version looks like this absolute piece of beauty [NOT mine]: That latter sporran is just gorgeous and would wear it in half a heartbeat. budd4766 Report post Posted October 19, 2010 I'm currently making a "modified" rob roy sporran as shown on this pdf file. Pretty simple, so far. 291sporr.pdf
RWP Report post Posted October 19, 2010 thanks for the input guys, both of those seem like they would be fairly easy to make. the second one especially reminds me of a larp belt pouch in construction the main difference being the hook for the closure is down on the bottom and the actual pouch part of the sporran looks like its deeper and a little more narrow hmmmmm now i have something to think about whilst at work today! hivemind Report post Posted October 20, 2010 This here is sorta, kinda a sporran: http://picasaweb.google.com/david.haldenwang/CelticPouch# There's pics of the pattern in there with some dimensions and a ruler for scale, and some pics of finished ones. More pics of finished ones here: http://picasaweb.google.com/david.haldenwang/Pouch# and here: http://picasaweb.google.com/david.haldenwang/Cokraffle# and here: http://picasaweb.google.com/david.haldenwang/SerisPouch# and here: http://picasaweb.google.com/david.haldenwang/IdesPrizes# I make a lot of these... RWP Report post Posted October 20, 2010 thansk hive. those are ALOT like the belt pouches i make for larps. the main thing i see thats different ( and i cant believe i havent thought of it before) that i love is that your flap actually is alot shorter which looks very very good. mine actually shuts in the same place but the actual flap comes down alot further
hivemind Report post Posted October 22, 2010 The flap is utterly changeable. Sometimes I add some fur, different shapes, raggedy look, whatever.
