cowhorsecassidy Report post Posted October 30, 2010 I have a McCall saddle, it has a ridge on the cantel and then a cheyenne roll, the ridge bothers me, if I unstich the cheyenne roll, peel the back of the seat back can i carve that ridge out? then put it back together, just not as comfy as my old custom saddle...my old saddle has a 5 in cantel, can you build up a 4 1/4in cantel to a 5 ? kseidel Report post Posted October 31, 2010 Hard to answer this question thoroughly without pics and some clarification. It is not possible to make a cantle higher. There are, however, ways to make the "ridge" disappear. Usually feeling the outside edge of the cantle is a function of the ground seat dish shaped too close to the cantle. Sometimes too much dish, sometimes too far back. Removing the seat and re-shaping the ground seat can increase support of the rider in the dish of the seat before you come in contact with the top outside edge of the cantle. Usually the original seat can be reinstalled without the more costly replacement of a large prime piece of leather. Keith
