Antiquing Trouble

I need some help! I'm working on this for my son-in-law for a Christmas gift. I got the dye done and let it dry, applied two thin coats of Clear-lac, let it dry, then antiqued with eco-flow medium brown gel antique. I've never had trouble like this before. The only word I can think of is "splotchy". It looks like it dried, or soaked through the Clear-lac, or...? Is there any way to take it off? If not, what other suggestions do you all have? I'd hate to start over on this piece, but I will if that's the only way. I should say this leather has given me fits all along. It was hard to work and "fuzzed' on me in places.

It looks like the culprit is the clear-lac - it is not resisting enough, in other words it is letting some of the antique through and some not. I would suggest either Block-out or Supersheen as the resist.

But to fix this one - I really do not know. I did have a guy work for me who would be unhappy with a project like that and then strip it off any way he could, thinner, acetone, de-glazer. Then he would apply some other finish .... And the pieces that I still have of his, all look really great!

By chance, did you have a fan on or the AC blowing anywhere near your finishing bench area?

Clearlac (Neatlac) do not work as a resist with the Eco Flow Antiques. I found this out the hard way doing just what you did. I ended up with some of the ugliest colors and coloration you have ever seen. As you might guess, I am not a fan of the Ecoflow products. They may work for some people but not for me. I will stick with the Fiebling antiques.

No AC, no fan, no heater. Humidity was low, don't know if that could be a factor.

Terry, I've come around to your way of thinking! Were you able to save any of those pieces, or did you have to start over?

I didn't even try to salvage. I was so disgusted at that point I just started over. Fortunately I did not have near the time in mine as you do in yours. You really have a nice piece, it would be a shame to waste all that time. Sorry I can't be of more help.
