Sewing Machines

Does anyone out there own one of these machines : Tippman Ind.The Boss; Techsew GA5-1R, Toro 3000 or 3200 If so, how do you like your machine? I am going to purchase one of these that can handle material thickness of 1/2" to 5/8" just wanted some input from those who are actually sewing with one in their own shop.

i have a tippman boss. it sews good and will sew anything you can get under it except for light leather. but it sews the thicker stuff great most of the stuff in my gallery was sewn on it

TIppmann Boss here as well. Ditto what Pat H said, sew anything but light leather. Takes a while to learn to sew by holding the work in one hand and operating the machine with the other but it's not hard. I bought the two different guides, the roller guide and the flat bed, I think they were worth the money. I use the flatbed for wallets, guitar straps, etc it's a little easier to keep the stitches really straight along an edge of things like belts, straps etc. I actually like the flatbed better than the roller guide although it works well in some applications and has the added advantage of being able to swing it out of the way when necessary.

Forgot to say, that for light leather I use a standard sewing machine with a leather needle and that works on 2-3oz leather really well. MIne isn't one of the cast iron models but I don't do a lot of light leather and even then I'm not a production shop. I find the combination of the two to work for me.

I have an aluminum Boss that I purchased as 'new, but out of warranty' (whatever that meant... It was used as a demo & obviously someone somewhere screwed it up, but I didn't know that at the time). I had a lot of trouble with it & a part finally broke while we were trying to sew up a bunch of sporrans for a big show. I called Tippmann, spoke with Mr. Tippmann directly & had it shipped back. They totally went over the entire machine, replaced parts assemblies that were physically bent & replaced broken parts, all at no charge to me. After about 5 minutes of playing around to adjust the stitch, it now sews wonderfully, from 2 layers of 3-4 oz leather on up. Wow, what a difference from when I first got it! I am so satisfied and these guys at Tippmann absolutely stand behind their products, even when they didn't need to. (Btw, their paintball guns are the industry standard- which is why I decided to go with Tippmann in the first place...)

I haven't moved up to a powered machine, yet, because I try to keep my production of machine sewn items small at this point (I mostly do mugs & flasks, which need to be hand sewn- they can't be done by machine), so for a basic, non-electric machine that does a lot, you can't beat a Boss.

Hello Jim!

The Tippermann and GA 5 has the wrong feed and is both yesterdays news. The Toro 3200 has the right triple feed and will sew thicker stuff. But if I was to buy a new machine I would speak to Cobra Steve here. And buy a Cobra 3 or 4 machine. You will get the best machine for the price, you will also get the best support .
