SYAWEDIS Report post Posted December 17, 2010 Hello everyone, I am trying to make my first backgammon board ever, and I'd like to wrap the case in leather, but I'm having difficulties. My major dilemma is how to wrap the corners for a tight, professional finish. Here's a link to some pictures that show the finish I'd like to achieve: http://www.gammonvillage.com/shop/zoom_image.cfm?photoSetID=9649&PID=2497 Does anyone know the procedure, or have any ideas, suggestions or a direction you can point me? -Kate, any ideas? Thanks for your time, Nathan
electrathon Report post Posted December 30, 2010 This really is in the wrong section. If a moderator would move it you will get more answers. I would use very thin leather. If you get something like pig it should be easy to cover the box and back of the hide with spray glue, then cover it similar to gift wraping a box. You will need to trim the corners very neatly, but it should not be too hard to get pro looking results. Aaron
dirtclod Report post Posted December 30, 2010 Nathan i would try to make a pattern out of thin / light weight paper first and see how it fits and if you need to change anything before i tried it with leather.
Fredo Report post Posted December 30, 2010 Thin leather like pig skin is going to be your best bet. For fitting dont be afraid to use your wife hair drier to help "mold" the leather.
calmar Report post Posted January 12, 2011 Are there also other nice methods to wrap leather around a - e.g. backgammon case? When you look at that: http://www.michellibackgammon.com/img/villa/rust-lg.jpg how could he have done that? The seam possibly indicates the leather on the top and the leather on the sides were separate? E.g. he put them together, turned the whole thing upside-down and pulled it over the box? Cheers for any hints. marco
calmar Report post Posted January 13, 2011 Or even better visible here: http://www.gammonvillage.com/images/productimages/thumbs/th700_10_mm614_e_IMG_0090a.jpg They seem to have put together the once the top with the side and then the side with the interior. However that means the side part must also have some 'joining-together' somewhere? Anyway, Cheers marco PS: I'm really wondering where my avatar pic is coming from. I never put it there actually. Hm.
