Members chillybean Posted December 24, 2010 Members Report Posted December 24, 2010 Hello Conny and greetings from an Englishman also living in the Netherlands. I am just getting started in leather craft and currently have tools coming from the UK and USA. I was wondering if you know of a good tannery in the Netherlands or Belgium. I plan to start by making sheaths for knives and multi tools. Thanks and Happy Holidays :-)) Mark. Quote

Members joquarter Posted December 25, 2010 Members Report Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Hello Chillybean, We buy most of our leather stuff in Belgium of in the Netherlands, here you have the link to their stores: In the Netherlands: http://www.boomsma.nl/nl/home In Belgium: http://www.dierenhui...on=home〈=NL Have fun to search in their webshop. Looking forward to see you're work. Miguel it depend on the size and what kind of vegtan leather you're looking for. Last time I bought half a hide in Belgium , 4mm payed € 60 euro for it. In the Netherlands I bought Dorset leather , 2 peaces 5mm , lenght 1.50m , width 6 cm. cost me € 50. If you want to order leather , the best you can do is give them a call , tell them what you need and they give you a price. Edited December 25, 2010 by joquarter Quote

Members ibonn Posted December 28, 2010 Members Report Posted December 28, 2010 hello Conny and fellow (Dutch) members I'm a silent reader on this forum but a few familiar names where mentioned in your posts so I had to answer. I was at Leerhandel Berten last Friday where I bought way too much stuff We got there just 3 minutes before closing time but they where great on Christmas Eve, they let me in and helped me with some questions regarding box making etc. Due the snow, it was very hard to get there though, we had trouble getting up the small hill as it was so slippery. At the moment there is still lots of snow in Belgium. As I'm taking lessons in leather carving and case making, I plan to post the results on the forum but for the moment I'm still hesitant as all the projects shown here are so great. Quote
Members joquarter Posted December 28, 2010 Members Report Posted December 28, 2010 We all started once. I get more and more inspiration , by looking at all the amazing work here. Make a lot of mistakes , but everything what you made by yourself , is something to be proud of. So don't be shy . My newest project is almost finished , have to think about the last details and do a lot of stitching. Where do you take carving lessons? Quote
Members ibonn Posted December 29, 2010 Members Report Posted December 29, 2010 I'll make some pics of my work and post them here for comments, I'm working on a small saddle bag and gitar straps. I got introduced to this leatherworker through a friend and he agreed to teach me. As he is already older, he teaches me at his home in Deventer and I drive over there ervery 2-3 weeks. Quote

Members Jef Posted January 17, 2011 Members Report Posted January 17, 2011 hello Conny and fellow (Dutch) members Due the snow, it was very hard to get there though, we had trouble getting up the small hill as it was so slippery. Hello, Conny. Jef, beginnend leerbewerker. "Greetings, and welcome here in Belgian Limburg. Now the snow is gone here will certainly not difficult to take that hill in Zonhoven. This afternoon we will go and see if there's leather in stock after your extensive "shopping session ". Nice if you only 10 Km from the supplier home lives, no? Jef, starting saddler." Members joquarter Posted January 19, 2011 Members Report Posted January 19, 2011 Goodmorning Jef, Our shopping session has to wait for a while, but I run out of leather, so as soon I can find some time I got to make a cardrive to Berten. Hope you did'nt buy all the vegtan in stock. How is the new store in Zonhoven? Quote
