132K6 Stitch Length

Recommended Posts

I have an old Singer 132K6 industrial machine in good working order, except for stitch length adjustment. I have tried holding the lever in until it engages, but when I try to turn the flywheel it just jams.

Is there another way to alter the stitch length?

Any help would be much appreciated.

BTW.......Merry Christmas all!

Lois,

When you say it jams, I assume you mean it stops. If this is so, hold it in and move the flywheel away or toward you depending on whether you want to lengthen or shorten the stitch. When you have turned the wheel a little let it go and try the stitch to see if it suits you. If not, adjust it again.

Tony.

I have 132 k6

the 132 k6 machines tend to have a stitch length adjustment problem. The stitch length adjustment tends to have a mind of it's own. By this i mean it wants to stitch in any length except for the one i want!!

If you have this machine and can't adjust the length then I suspect the previous owner locked down the mechanism so it won't move. DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT!!!

I can tell you That mine slipped around a lot and I simply locked it down with a custom made screw driver and a small adjustable wrench.

You will need to determine if your machine is configured the same way mine is.

1} the stitch length adjustment is a button located in the vertical mast

2} there is an access door on the top right near the hand wheel.

3}inside the access door there is a cam just behind the adjustment button.

4}the cam it self has notches on the outer circumference that the adjust button engages when depressed.

5}there are 2 sets of bolts going from right to left through the cam assembly.

If you find you machine is configured this way I recommend loosing the two bolts enough to adjust the stitch length then re tighten. Bare in mind the parts are old, rare & hard to find. I would set the length and leave it alone.

Hope this helps....

I have 3 k6 machines that are used on a regular basis and have never had that problem, yet!

Parts are usually readily available out here in OZ though. Never had a problem.

Thankyou for your help and apologies for the delayed reply - I have had an extended hospital stay from the day I wrote this request to now. Hope to be back to my leather work soon and will report on any success with this problem.

Regards

Lois

11years later... Albane, just wanted to say a big thank you! I have 132k7 that was stuck on too long stitches. I found the screws, loosened them, and now I can adjust the stitch length. Fantastic!
