Does anyone use ONLY Neatsfoot Oil as there finish (over dyed leather)? No "Lac" or anything else... just a nice coating of Neatsfoot?

Is there any reason that would not be ok? It sure looks nice.

I have been doing a coat of neatsfoot and then a coat of NeatLac but it shines a lot more than I like. Yes it looks good... but I also really like the look of just an oiled holster. In Bianchi's video, I believe he only uses Neatsfoot oil... I could be wrong but that's what I thought I saw.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Here's one I did for a friend. It's a 1911 field holster that has neatsfoot oil and then a neatsfoot oil/beeswax finish.

As a side note this is the holster he gave me that he wanted me to recreate in LH http://www.flickr.com/photos/29310638@N07/4997493071/in/set-72157606586066759/

I told him I didn't think I could make something that ugly if I tried

I have several holsters where I just used a good coat of neatsfoot oil and let it 'rest' in the sun for a little while to get to the shade I was looking for, with no other "final" finish applied. All of them are holding up well and look exactly like I wanted them too.
