Holster Cant

Recommended Posts

I am making avenger style holsters and have no problem with a straight drop. I would now like to make one with a 15 degree angle. I have a protractor but can't wrap my head around how to use it to measure out a 15 degree angle. Do I put the staight part on the rear belt loop and measure from their? Or on the front of the holster.

ANy help would be greatly apperciated and since I am a visual learner pics would make you my hero!!!

Take a piece of posterboard, or a manilla file folder, and draw a 1-1/2" belt through the middle of it. Make a dot in the middle of the lower belt line. put the bottom center of the protractor on that dot. At the top of the protractor is 90 degrees. To get a 15 degree cant, you'll make a mark at the 75 degree place for right hand, or 105 degree for left hand. Using a straightedge, draw a line from this mark to the mark you made on the bottom line of the belt you drew. This line is the correct plane for the top of your pistol slide or barrel. Now you can lay your pistol on the drawn belt where you'd like it to ride, with the top of the slide/barrel on this line. draw an outline of the pistol. Now you simply draw your holster around the pistol's outline. Hope this helps.

I do it just a little different than gregintenn described. I too use a manila folder but for simplicity I like to have the crease in the folder always follow the top of the slide so I draw the belt on the folder at a 15 degree angle to the crease. Half of one, six of dozen of the other

If you dont have a protractor, you can measure 6 inches out along the belt line from your center line, then go vertical 1 5/8 inch, up on one side, down on the other, to obtain your 15 degree angle.
