Heavy Weight Paper For Journals?

Recommended Posts

I am surprised no one has made a post all week on here. So I thought I would ask some people who may know. Ok I was wondering where to find a heavy weight paper for a journal for as cheap as possable. I was wanting to find some that when folded would be 8 1/2 x 11 so 11x17 I guess. I looked online and did find alot of places selling paper but all were really pricey. And it was mostly regular weight paper. Is that what alot of you use when making a journal?

I am still working on my bookcover but I am looking in to making it into a journal cover IF for some reason my measurment in width ends up being off and the book will not fit. This way I can salvage it and make it into something else just in case.

Besides I buy a hand made journal for my daaughter every year. Now that I recently got in to leatherwork I could make her one. Just getting some info on it for future use. If anyone knows of a good source that won't cost me my first born please let me know. Also do they make paper with lines so when it is folded the journal will have lined paper? Thank you in advance. John

I buy mine at Hobby Lobby when they have it on sale. I stock up then. I use Canson 70# Drawing paper, recycled. It is bright white, smooth, and can be used for pen and ink, as well as dry media. Mine are the only handmade sketch books my artist friends will buy. I hand-stitch the paper (sides) into the leather and can make custom sizes. I've attached an example of what I do.

Bison thank you for the reply. Your journal looks great! Can I ask you what type of thread you used on this one? Looks thick. I am going to check hobby lobby out thanks for the information. John

On that I used the waxed brown thread from Tandys. It comes in the small 25 yard rolls. I also use their heavier thread. It's flat, and comes in colors. It has a braided look to it. I like that best because it lays flat outside the book and you can make some nice patterns with it.
