dirtclod Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Looks like a made in China knockoff that will sew a 1/2 inch of leather. http://www.leightons.ca/catalog-general.html Quote I'm old enough to know that i don't know everything.
Moderator Art Posted March 8, 2011 Moderator Report Posted March 8, 2011 That is Leighton's (in Alberta) version of the GA5-1 machine. They properly rework it to sew leather. Still not needle feed though, try their Mach 3 for that. Members steve hansl Posted March 9, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks for the replies, what about the GA5-1R?Also,sorry for my ignorance, what is a needle feed machine.I am a cobbler with an Adler patcher and a Landis outsole stitcher, that is my experience with stitchers. Quote
Moderator Art Posted March 9, 2011 Moderator Report Posted March 9, 2011 The "R" means the machine has reverse, otherwise pretty much the same. A needle feed machine has a feed mechanism where the needle goes into the material and then advances the material by moving the needle. These machines have alternating feet with the center foot moving with the needle. Some of these machines additionally have a drop feed (feed dogs also assist with moving the material). When sewing multiple layers of material, this system is helpful. Most machines for canvas and upholstery shops also use this system.
