jimhammer Report post Posted March 20, 2011 Hello to all, Former USMC mid-east vet parachute rigger here and I am looking to get a good machine for myself. My funds are limited but that doesn't stop me from my goal. Does anyone know where I can get a used machine for use in fabricating motercycle tool bags, holsters, chaps and similar pieces? Thanks and Semper Fi, Jim
Wizcrafts Report post Posted March 20, 2011 You'll probably need a cylinder arm machine, with a walking foot mechanism, to do the work you described. A couple of our member-dealers sell used, as well as new leather sewing machines. The one I know best is Bob Kovar, owner of Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines (in Toledo, Ohio). He has dozens of new and used/rebuilt machines of all descriptions for sale, including many that have cylinder arms. His phone number is 866-362-7397. If you are in the market for a new machine, your choices expand, along with the cost.

Wizcrafts Report post Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) There is also Greg at Keystone sewing machines. They have new and used machines. I'll have to look them up to get a phone number. Techsew, a division of Raphael Sewing in Montreal, PQ, also sells used machine and is a member of this forum. There are actually a lot of new machine dealers that also rebuild older stock. I am sure you will find a suitable machine at a price you can afford. Edited March 21, 2011 by Wizcrafts
jimhammer Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Hi guys, With some rsearch and knockin on a few doors I found a great buy on a Singer 211 series near my home. The wife and I were out and I jotted down the addresses of 3 repair shops in the area. The first one we stopped at, well let's just say he was rude. I asked if he knew any industrial repair/sales shops in the area and he said "None...you need to go out of state." and walked away. So we went on to the next shop. When we walked in we were greeted by an elderly man and he was happy to be of service. He asked what I was looking for and he showed me a few industrial models that would work but he had the same machine I learned on years ago and we talked a bit. He gave me a great price, put it on lay away for me, then we talked for an hour. His name is Nick, of the NECCHI Sewing Circle in Ocean Tonwship NJ. 732-922-9380 He told us the history of his shop/family business, we talked about his brothers and him in WW2 and my wife and I serving in the middle east with the Corps. He told me, "Please stop by anytime and I will help reaquaint you with the machine. I will also give you extra needles. bobbins, etc... whatever you need." He is a true gentleman and I look forward to spending some time with him. This generosity from a man who's wife of 67 years passed away just this past week. Powerful example of a man at one of lifes hardest of times. So if anybody in the area needs something just go see Nick...
