I normally use rawhide burners on my rawhide hondas, but recently i have been using plastic burners, Plastic burners are really the way to go, you get the weight of a rawhide honda with the speed of a plastic burner, and when the honda gets wet it doesnt get so sticky and slow, please tell me whatcha think

Neat I like it. Isn't it hard to get the dowel through the center after the knots are tied?

no its not too bad, i have a long tapered spike i use, and i usually can get it all the way through, then i take out the spike and put in my 3/8 plug, the spike is a little larger than 3/8 so i have to hurry and put in the plug but i can usually get it done. i think the knots look better if you tie them before you put the plug in

Thanks for sharing your steps. It is great to see how many different people have.

On your initial loop, are you twisting the strands to make the loop section or did I miss something? Also I like the speed burner idea cause I dislike putting on the rawhide burners.

right away i find the middle of the strings, then i do a slit braid right in the middle of them, you could also braid 4 strands in the middle

I like how you did the slit braid (or blood knot as some people know it) for the initial loop. I think that would close up a bit better than even doing the 4 strand braid since it is much flatter

Okay, I might catch flak for resurrecting an old thread, but can you give me a few more details on this process? I want to start braiding my first rawhide honda and have plenty of material to work with, but as a beginner, I can't quite make out how you started it in your pictures. I'm instructionally challenged!!

Great job, thanks for taking the time to do that. I've been trying a few speed burners & they seem pretty popular. Buck

Have you ever made any rawhide burners?

How do you make. I have trouble making the rawhide get tite around the honda.

Size it to fit around the hondoo then notch the ends in a v pattern so the part inside is narrower than the part you are laceing.
