Members cjcinin317 Posted March 26, 2011 Members Report Posted March 26, 2011 A pocket Holster. Really happy with this one except for the trigger side stitch line is way off. This was my first J frame holster. And a Pancake. Like this one but I dyed before molding and I just cant seem to make this work out. Can't get the fine line and look i get when dying after molding. Its retention os good though. Its also almost 1/2 inch to long at the barrel, but it was the first try on this pattern. Thanks for checkin em out Quote

Thanks for checkin em out Well, from the grumpy old man: I actually am intrigued with the pocket holster, I kinda like it. True.....you need to work on your stitching as well as it's placement.....that's kinda important. To me a dye job should result in a uniform, even color........I think you might want to work on that too. As to the pancake holster......I'm not a fan of a pancake for the J-frame. A good pouch type belt holster will hold the gun in about as tight, take up less leather and is easier on and off the belt. BEANS! I'm just old I guess....I have a hard time calling the new stuff by old terms. Back when, a J-frame was a 'Chiefs Special' but usually called a Model-36. The hammerless was VERY seldom seen as was the 3" version. All that aside, you did pretty good. A pic of my favorite style of holster for my M-36. Mike Quote
Members cjcinin317 Posted March 26, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 26, 2011 Thanks for the comments. The pocket holster is one of my favorites. The dye looks much less streaky in person. But it is a little off. Not sure why. It's a Matt DelFatti design I copied( just for myself). I beleive he doesn't even take orders anymore. The pancake was just for fun. But I really like it with the j frame. If it was the right length I think I would use it more. Agian thanks for your comments C.J. Quote
Members Eaglestroker Posted March 26, 2011 Members Report Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Hey CJ, I recently had the opportunity to play with a J-frame of a friends as well. After a few 'dog toy' holsters I will agree that the pancake just seems to large for such a little gun, I made an avenger styled holster that really fits the pistols style much better in my opinion. On your barrel not being the right length I'm going to bet that you added a whatever length you added to the sides to the tip of the barrel ( I made the same mistake on the first one I designed from scratch). Remember you add length on either side for the 'pocket' of the pistol when you form it and that isn't needed for barrel length Well, from the grumpy old man: I actually am intrigued with the pocket holster, I kinda like it. Mike Not to jack the thread, but is that a pocket holster or are you just left handed? I like the simplicity of that a lot! Would you happen to have a post with some more pictures/detail? Members cjcinin317 Posted March 26, 2011 Author Members Report Posted March 26, 2011 Thanks for the comments. I know not to add the length at the end of the barrell but i guess i get so used to my patterns being to small i just added the length by mistake. I will have to try an avenger style. I really like the j frame. Its like not carry a gun at all. I dont have a post for the pocket holster. Google Matt Del Fatti and check out his sight. Its probably my most used holster, need to make a nicer lookin one though. After you see Matt's you will know what i mean. Thanks agian for checkin em out and your comments C.J. Quote
