Plinth, Baseboard Molds

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have tooled a pair of knot Celtic designs on a leather rectangle 40 x 20 cms. that I would like to dye and install along the walls of my sitting room. After measuring the room I noticed that I need at least 40 pcs that is almost a foolish when thinking on carving, tooling and time for a repetitive work. I have seen that there are people making a kind of plastic molds with nylon, delrin or other synthetic materials capable to resist repeated impacts from a mallet or the strength of a press without loosing the shape. I think I could make the molds from rubber, latex or silicone but I don't know what material to melt in to be appropriate for leather stamping.

That I want is to pour these latex, silicone or rubber onto the leather once tooled then get the mold and then pour a sinthetic and hard compound to get a kind of stamping bricks suitable for a press. The idea is using new sinthetic compounds able to substitute the old iron molds. Does anyone know the process and compounds I need to use to get a mold and the final stamp brick? Does anyone know if Nylon, Delrin Rod or other used on mallets and mauls can be melted on these flexible molds from rubber?

Thank you

I would seek out a plastic company that does injecton molding in your area. They may be able to guide you to some company that can do what you are wanting. Also an engraving company that does brass plate engraving for the printing and greeting card industry maybe able to do what you are wanting.
