Jimbob Report post Posted April 18, 2011 I have a lots of request for gelpads in my seats......anybody ever done a biker seat with gelpads....how deep do you sing the pad in the foam?? How big has the pad to be.....what finishing layer of foam on top do you recomend?? Any additional info would be helpful....thanks for any info on this topic!! TinyL Report post Posted April 20, 2011 I haven't done any but if you search on youtube, I think there are vids of how to do it. I believe you need to do it as an inset, cutting the foam out so the gel pad rests in the inset and is level with the rest of the foam. tdarge Report post Posted April 23, 2011 (edited) We have done a ton of bike seats in my shop. I do embroidery on leather products but I've seen our upholsterer do tons of these. He cuts the seat foam with an electric carving knife (like you'd use for a turkey) just deep enough to flush up the gel pad. Glue it in place. Then you wrap over the entire seat with 1/2 inch soft foam (gluing again) and upholster. Voila! Finished gel seat. We usually secure the gel inserts for $50 and charge $125 to install them up and above the cost of the upholstery. Easiest $75 ever.
