I saw a nice patch of these blooming along the waterfront at Claytor Lake, VA today. Sadly, it was surrounded by trash from careless visitors. But it was just so pretty, I had to take a pic. Hope someone can make use of it as a pattern.

That's an interesting Iris. We don't have any around here like that. Right now, we don't have any flowers at all! Here's an iris that bloomed in my workshop this past winter. It's not the same kind as yours.

I used to have a blue one similar to this yellow, and I think it was called a southern blueflag. It was in the iris family though. My mom has a whole bunch like your carving - she's an iris fanatic.
