Anothe Round Knife Use Question

Im sorry to keep asking questions about round knifes - but I wanted to see what surface is recommended to cut on?? I have been using poundo board and I notice the edge of the knife cuts into the board which hinders its ability to move forward as I push it to cut. Would it be better to use a hard surface??? If so doesnt the hard surface dull the blade quicker??

Your a 100% right about a poundo board grabbing your knife. I use the white cutting boards like the ones you can get at wal mart and other places and i don't think it dulls your knife. They sure make cutting easier.

What dirtclod said. The poly cutting boards work great and don't dull your knife. After much use they will pick up a lot of lines and make cutting harder as the tip of the kinife wants to follow the cut it is in. I just resurface the board with my belt sander and coarse grit belt..

I agree thta poundo boards are a poor cutting surface. I recommennd saftey glass. It does not get cut lines on the surface and does not dull

your round knife. You can pick up on cheap at any auto junk yard/ Mine is the flat side window from an older model van.

You should learn to cut your leather off the edge of the bench. I was taught that many years ago by a good saddlemaker and my round knife edge hasn't touched anything but leather since. It takes a little practice but you'll soon teach yourself how to do it. Leave what you're cutting hanging over the edge. Your knife will stay sharper for so much longer and believe me, you'll soon shudder at the sight of someone using a razor sharp round knife to cut into their bench, poundo board, or anything else.
