Members woodandsteel Posted May 10, 2011 Members Report Posted May 10, 2011 I'm making my first attempt at using exotic leathers. I think what I'm using is iguana, but I'm not sure (It was in a remnant bundle). The problem I'm having is that the scales are somewhat bony, and I can't cut a groove to keep my stitching straight. I stitched it free hand (saddle stitching), but it's a bit sloppy. What do you all do? Quote
Members Sixer Posted May 10, 2011 Members Report Posted May 10, 2011 I don't have much experience with exotics, but I know exactly what kind of problem you're having. I guess it depends on what you are making (holster, sheath, etc.) On owb/ pancake type holsters, I've seen that a lot of makers only use exotic skins on the front of the holster. My approach would be to make my stitching grooves on the back side / cow side of the holster. I'm interested to hear what others have to say....
