Members NC Holster Maker Posted May 20, 2011 Members Report Posted May 20, 2011 What size drill bits are you guys using for your #277 thread? Also what size needle are you using when using drilled holes for your stiching layout? Quote
Members tonyc1 Posted May 21, 2011 Members Report Posted May 21, 2011 Why not try stitching with an awl? Tony Quote
Members Rayban Posted May 21, 2011 Members Report Posted May 21, 2011 When I need to drill holes for hand stitching I use a 3/64" bit.......it's more of a pilot hole since I still have to use the awl to make the hole big enough to allow the needle's eyelet to pass through. I'm not sure of the needle size, it's the one Tandy sells in a 10/pack. Quote
KAYAK45 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 The smallest possible hole that will allow the needle and thread to pass through. Then one size smaller! The only time to use a drill bit is two or three layers of leather and a filler Strip! Otherwise an awl. Some say you should have to use pliers to get the needle through. Maybe yes..maybe no? Quote
