Hi. I'm fairly new at selling my leatherwork. Could any of you advise me as to how you determine a price to charge for your work. I make sheaths for knives but they are part of a complete package. Recently I've beeen getting requests for other items..vest, holsters, portfolio, etc. I'm just not sure how to price these "one-off" pieces. Any advice would be appreciated.

Here is a formula that was passed on to me by one of the old guard.

Material costs X 5 -OR- $ .10 per hole for hand sewn projects. It adds up.....................

I require a 50% deposit upon commission for the project , after both the customer, and I have agreed on the design.

I do not place orders for Materials without the deposit.

Because I only do commissioned projects, I can avoid high inventory, office overhead, and I can devote myself to the craft.

Thanks for the input. That's sounds like

something that I could use.

I use material X 2 plus hourly rate. It take forever to get your material prices and timing correct, but once you do, you can quote something in just a few seconds, and be pretty darn accurate.
