Hi Im looking to get a leather splitter for splitting tooling leather and calf hide for making straps and belts what's the best splitter that won't cost me an arm and a leg I saw one in TLF but I'm not sure if this is what I need , high-tech leather splitter any inputs will help thanks :)

Good splitters are not cheap, and you get what you pay for. The best option is to have some money set aside and start browsing 'for sale' ads, antique stores, etc. Next best.....save up enough to get the real deal from the start.

I would find a old Osborne model 84 or Chase splitter. They would split your tooling leather good. Make sure your blade is good and sharp. I don't think any pull thru splitter will work very well on any leather that's soft.
