Members colsan3333 Posted June 28, 2011 Members Report Posted June 28, 2011 I made this IWB holster for my 1911, out of 9-10oz Veg Tan leather, with a Feibings cordovan die, and Crossbreed IWB clips. The finish is alot darker then i thought it was going to be, so I put some die reducer, and a lighter brown die on order. The next holster will have a much smoother surface. Quote
Members particle Posted June 28, 2011 Members Report Posted June 28, 2011 Looks a lot better than my first attempt! Nice job! How did you apply the dye? Nice gun you have there! Quote
Members 1911 Operator Posted June 29, 2011 Members Report Posted June 29, 2011 I know what you mean about the Dark Browns...I did the same with my early holsters. I use far more Tans' than Browns' now when I dye. Even the light Browns, if you apply too much will go dark on you in a hurry if you aren't careful. Suggestion...go to "particale" 's site and watch his video on his holster making. He is good with the air brush, since watching it I have an air brush and have been experimenting and practicing. I'm not very good yet, but I find that it is easier to apply just the right amount of dye to get the desired effect this way than using wool daubers, or dunking. Good luck. Quote
Members colsan3333 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Members Report Posted July 1, 2011 I ended up using a wool dauber. And I found the right mixture with the right amount of reducer to get the results i was looking for. Quote
