Adler Sewing Machine Model Number ?

Recommended Posts

I was going to mention that this was bery similar to a Singer 7 class.

China builds the 7-33 style machine and while not all of the parts are exact I have managed to make a dollar or two modifying them to suit. I even make a spring to fit the 7-5

Hello Bkyjones

Art, they missed that factory making the Kochs Adler, (but hit a Dürkopp factory among others, these made war material too. Not only sewing machines, but motor bikes, car and only God knows what) because this particular class was made until 1975. The class 20 was the heaviest class they made, some of the subclasses has as much as 40 mm foot lift. Others only 16 mm.

Then it was replaced by the class 120. The class 20 changed the color to Adler green sometimes along that time period. What is the subclass number of your class 20-?, its on the little plate on the head.

In the world of Industrial sewing machines where everybody copies each other, you can find parts from other brand machines that will fit yours too. I have an opinion about who copied who, but I will keep it to myself (this time).

The Singer class 7 shuttle and shuttle race will fit, maybe other parts as well. See this topic for more information http://leatherworker...777#entry322368

And here you will find some of the documentation you need,

http://sew24.blogspo.../downloads.html

part list and manual. You will need a part list to find the part you need, a manual that comes as an bonus. If there are some part you cant find anywhere you can have it custom made. Talk to Thomas Brinkhoff (head of spare parts Dürkopp Adler) He runs this blog, he might be able to help you too. If there is a part you cannot find, let me know. Perhaps I know a address for you, or an solution.

Good luck

Tor

Personally I would suggest to anyone wanting a full on production machine to not be a tight arse and go buy a Juki or Adler.

Kevlar thread is extremely specialised and will eat into any machine but there are only about four wear parts at risk so I suspect if you trashed the machine it has more to do with operator error.

If I was to supply a Juki or Adler for Kevlar thread then there are parts that I would have nitrided and titanium oxide coated.

If you find an Adler 220 at a good pries BUY IT, it is a far superior machine to any Chines 441 clone or for that matter its better than a JUKI 441 if tooth marks in your work is a problem and if you don't want to file the teeth down just fill them in with JB weld, COBRA AND COWBOY 441 CLONES DO NOT LAST VERRY LONG YOU CAN ALREADY FIND THEM IN JUNK PILES the 220 Adler will last a life time I ran a new Cobra 441 clone in to the dirt in 90 days beyond repair, I was using Kevlar thread on polyester web 7hr a day five days a week for just short of 12 weeks, so there you go that is precisely the durability of a 441 clone. the phone number to my sewing factory is 509 315-5988 address 3038 E. Trent Spokane WA.99201 CO. name A.Adler web sling & tie down factory www.aadlerfactory.com

Thank you all for the information. I decided to return the Adler to my brother and instead was able to get the Class 7 Singer he gave me up and running. If anybody is interested in purchasing the Adler, just let me know and I'll put you in touch with my brother. For what the machine is, I believe it's in great shape just missing a few parts.

There are lots of Singer 7 parts available as the Chinese build the 7-33 although not everything will fit. It is even possible to take some Chinese parts and modify them - as I do to make the 7-5 take up spring.

It is also possible that a lot of 7 class parts will fit the Adler but you need to be prepared to muck around a bit to do it.

Bob, I have had to tune up a few 441 clones over the last couple of years but have yet to see any problems with the basic structure of the machine.

There only seem to be two problems with new machines:

1/ machine purchased from someone who did not set it up properly, remove burs, fine tune timing etc.

2/ Parts moved in transport. Obviously if the shipping company is harsh enough any damage is possible.

On older machines the only adjustment ever needed is the angle bracket that holds the needle bar assembly in place.

I know you have probably forgotten more about sewing machines than I will ever know but have you ever seen any fault that would consign a 441 to the scrap yard? As an engineer I just cannot see how.

My only experience with kevlar thread is that it is about as forgiving as wire rope and will wear the hell out of the thread path and shuttle, hence my suggestion that if I had a customer silly enough to want to use it I would be sending bits off to be nitrided to make them harder. A titanium oxide shuttle from Hirose would be a no brainer and a dozen shuttle springs would have to be part of the package.

COBRA AND COWBOY 441 CLONES DO NOT LAST VERRY LONG YOU CAN ALREADY FIND THEM IN JUNK PILES

Wow Bigted9, I guess I'm not the only one with one these Adler's. Are they complete? Missing parts, etc? They look pretty rough so wondering what your plans are for them. The one I gave back to my brother is in very good shape, no rust, etc. just missing a few parts. If you're interested, maybe you two could work something out to get them up and running. Thanks for the pics.
