Guitar Strap

Recommended Posts

I made the mistake of poor planning so I picked up a guitar strap kit. This was one of the most difficult pieces I've worked on due to the quality of the leather. It was tough to carve and just wouldnt take a coat of dye consistently. This is how it looked before deglazing and using Fiebing's black to get it a consistent coloring. I wanted to just black the background in the design and use tan. I was still happy with it all black (forgot to grab an all black pic).

Edited for my poor typing and grammar : )

I have noted the same as to quality, No telling how long a kit has been packaged and there always seems to be sunlight darkening problems from sitting in the store. I will only buy a kit to use as a pattern now.

Absolutely right! The problem with the kits is that the leather is not always the best. Bets to use the kit as a pattern. I keep matte board around and make my own long term  patterns from that. Nice work on the skulls.
