Members sunny275 Posted July 18, 2011 Members Report Posted July 18, 2011 Hello everyone, Still a little new to this. I just cut out a piece of leather for a holster. I folded it over so I could sand the perimiter sides fluch. I noted a small crack caused by the fold. The leather is newly bought from Tandys. The best quality I could find for what I know anyway. I assume it was too dry to manage the fold. Do I put a conditioner on it prior to cutting it? Just wet it?....what do I do to keep this from happening again? Any help would be much appreciated. They dont give the leather away!!! Quote

Members particle Posted July 18, 2011 Members Report Posted July 18, 2011 You need to wet your leather first before you bend it. When I make an Avenger style holster, which is what I assume you are trying to make, I take a wet sponge and dampen the exterior grain side a little, then apply a liberal amount of moisture to the flesh side with my sponge. This should prevent the leather from cracking. Quote
