Members johnggrg Posted July 25, 2011 Members Report Posted July 25, 2011 I have a simple question. I have seen alot of photoalbums book covers and journals made with what kooks like a 3 pieces design two sides and one on the spine that raps around and is sewn on to each side. Is that just a look or is that the way they are made? If so is it easier to do it that way? Please let me know. Thank you. John Quote
Members wildrose Posted July 25, 2011 Members Report Posted July 25, 2011 I have a few that I've done where the spine is a separate piece. There are various reasons for it, and a few advantages. But it does make for extra work, because it adds sewing time to it. Here are a couple of examples. Quote
Members johnggrg Posted July 26, 2011 Author Members Report Posted July 26, 2011 Wildrose thank you for the reply. If it were to get me away from guaging the spine out then the stitching wouldn't be so bad as far as I am concered. But thank you for posting some examples. John Quote
King's X Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 It depends on the project. Like Wildrose states it does add some more work. What I like best is you can get a bit creative with the spine. For example is the portfolio that I made about 2 years ago. Quote
Members dragonspit Posted July 26, 2011 Members Report Posted July 26, 2011 I only had done one so far with a spine cover, but I didnt understand and didnt use a three piece system, just one big ole piece with a spine cover. thats really a lot of extra work for nothing, so I wouldnt recommend that way lol. it turned out fine and its stout, but just was unnecessary. Members johnggrg Posted July 27, 2011 Author Members Report Posted July 27, 2011 King's X that looks great!! I like the way the spine cover looks. Just wondered if it was 3 peices or 1 with a spine cover like Dragonspit said. If 3 peices I would rather do the extra stitching then to dig the spine out. But to each there own. Thank's for the replies. John Quote
King's X Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 This one was a three piece portfolio and my third at the time. The first two were one piece portfolio. The new owner really liked his portfolio. Good luck Quote
